It All Began In Nature

1950s

Clint grew up on a farm in Montana, where life was deeply connected to the rhythms of nature. His childhood was filled with barefoot adventures—chasing cows, baling hay, and tending to crops.

Many of his friends were from a nearby Native American reservation, and Clint quickly noticed that their way of life, deeply rooted in a profound understanding of nature, was different from what he had been taught as "normal."

One time, his friend’s mother told him to take off his shoes when they got home from school. “They will make you sick,” she said. Another time, his friend’s sister fell ill with scarlet fever, and her grandfather treated her by placing her in a pit in the ground. She emerged days later, much improved.

The Future Was In The Ground.

1960s

In the early 1960s, Clint moved to the city and entered the emerging cable television industry, quickly recognizing its potential as the future of television He immersed himself in all aspects of the business, from organizing marketing campaigns to physically installing cable systems in homes across Montana.

After a few years, his expertise led him to become the National Director of Marketing for a Denver company, which soon became the largest cable television provider in the U.S., eventually acquired by AT&T.

The Future Was In The Ground

1970s

In 1972, Clint started his own business that specialized in developing cable television systems, as well as broadcast television and microwave communication properties. It soon became the largest provider of cable television marketing and installation services in the country, installing cable in millions of homes.

The Birth Of The Cable Modem

1980s

In the 1980s, Clint Ober turned his attention to the developing computer industry and partnered with McGraw-Hill. This pioneering effort led to the creation of the first-ever cable modem. In an age before the internet, this cable modem enabled news reports from news agencies around the world to be viewed through personal computers.

Clint was closely involved in the early development of programming and marketing for the cable and telecommunications industries, collaborating with top visionaries who went on to create major networks such as Cable News Network (CNN) and Home Box Office (HBO). His work also highlighted the increased awareness of the need for proper system grounding in these new technologies.

In Search Of A New Purpose

1995

In 1993, Clint's health suddenly deteriorated due to a serious abscess that compromised 80% of his liver. As the infection spread, most doctors advised him to prepare for the worst, but one surgeon offered a slim chance of survival through an experimental surgery. With nothing to lose, Clint took the risk and, against all odds, walked out of the hospital 28 days later.

After his recovery, Clint made dramatic changes. He sold his house and business, bought an RV, and started traveling across the country with only a few essentials. He thought to himself, "Whatever time I have left, I want to dedicate it to something worthwhile and with purpose." Clint spent the next few years traveling and searching for this new purpose.

The Idea That Started A Movement

1998

While sitting on a park bench in Sedona, Clint noticed tourists getting off a bus were all wearing shoes with thick rubber or plastic soles. Clint realized that these soles were insulated people from the Earth's electrical surface charge. This made Clint wonder...could wearing shoes, and disconnecting from the ground, affect health?

Clint thought back to his years in cable TV, where grounding cables stopped static and interference, giving a clear picture and preventing signals from disrupting other systems. Clint began to wonder if grounding the human body could reduce "interference" and improve health. This simple observation changed his life and work forever.

The Discovery of Grounding

1999

Clint bought a voltmeter from a hardware store and began testing EMF levels around the hotel room he was renting. He discovered that the only places unaffected by EMFs were near grounded appliances like the fridge and computer tower. Inspired, he created a makeshift grounding grid for his bed, laid down, and fell asleep immediately—a breakthrough, as he hadn’t slept through the night since his life-saving surgery, which had left him with chronic back pain. The next morning, Clint woke up feeling incredible. Encouraged, he set up a few friends to sleep grounded, and they all reported amazing results. Realizing he was onto something, Clint searched for information about grounding the human body—only to discover that no one had explored this idea before.

The Science of Earthing

2004

For the next few years, Clint reached out to countless scientists, searching for someone willing to study grounding. After repeated rejections, Clint decided to fund his own study to get the ball rolling. To conduct the study, Clint developed the first Earthing product: a simple sleeping mat that allowed participants to stay grounded while they slept. After a successful anecdotal study of 60 subjects was published in 2000, a retired anesthesiologist in Southern California who was interested in electric field research, stepped up and said he’d like to prove Clint wrong.

The pilot study measured cortisol levels, tracking participants’ circadian rhythms before and after sleeping grounded over several weeks. The results, published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2004, revealed a significant impact on the participants, marking a major breakthrough in Clint’s journey.

The Earthing Movement

2006+

Since that time, 26 peer-reviewed research studies have been conducted showing the positive effects grounding has on the human body.

Recognizing that most people are unable to go back to living like their ancestors did - walking barefoot, sleeping on the ground, and being outside most of the day and night - Clint developed indoor grounding products to connect everyone back to the Earth’s electrons.

Clint has made it his mission to spread the message of grounding to everyone on our planet. To date, he has grounded more than ten million people and is still passionately advocating for people to put their feet back on the Earth.

In Clint's Words

"After years of observing the effect of Earthing on people, I know with absolute certainty that most everything going on in the body is different when you’re not grounded, when you are disconnected from the Earth, like most people today. The way to live is to be connected to the Earth - grounded as much as possible − because being connected is like pulling a switch that enables your body to function more naturally and efficiently. Your body works electrically. You are a bioelectric being and you need connection with your natural electric source — the Earth’s electric energy. It establishes the most natural state of your electric body. It nourishes every cell.

Earthing can be life-changing. It is one of the most simple and important things you can do for your health, and probably the easiest lifestyle change you can make in your lifetime.

My message is very simple: get grounded, and stay grounded for a lifetime."

The ungrounded state is neither normal nor natural, nor the way that humans lived throughout most of history.
